Easy Front Porch Christmas Decorations
Depending on your entrance, you can use one or all of these tips to add that holiday vibe to your home this season.
You want your holiday entry to be inviting, cheerful, and bright – okay, that sounds like a Christmas song, but seriously, why wouldn’t you want your entry to feel like the lyrics of a classic Christmas carol? Let’s get started!
1. Add a Christmas wreath to your front door
Simple and classic, adding a wreath to your front door can be the only thing you do, and this alone will spruce up your entrance for the season. Pardon the pun…😉
You can choose a fresh, handmade wreath or a faux wreath that you can use year after year. The great thing about plain wreaths is you can decorate them differently each season by changing the ribbons and adding berries, bells, or other decorations.
2. Create outdoor holiday planters
Add a simple holiday planter if you have room at your front entrance. You can add one or even two for a symmetrical look. These can be purchased at most local grocery stores or garden centers, but you can easily make your own if you have access to nearby woods.
You can easily create a beautiful outdoor planter with different types of greenery: a piece of white birch, a pine cone, berries, sticks, and ribbon.
3. Add a pretty holiday welcome mat
Adding a welcome can make your entry feel more inviting. I love the look of a layered mat, and I am currently using a black and white striped rug with a beautiful coir mat. We have quite a bit of snow in the winter, so the layered mat will not work once the snow comes.
I do leave the natural coir out all season for people to wipe their shoes before entering. This is with an understanding that winter snow and ice are hard on the coir mat, and it may have to be replaced year after year.
4. Adorne your entry with garland
Adding garland around your front door, posts, or deck railings will give your entry a Christmas charm. You can also incorporate ribbon into different types of garland or add some shatter-proof ornaments to give additional color to your outdoors.
5. Add Christmas lights
I believe that incorporating more Christmas lights can enhance the appearance of your holiday decorations. You can add lights to your garland, wreaths, holiday planters, and trees.
In one of my previous homes, we even used icicle lights, which always looked particularly beautiful. Nowadays, there are many variations of Christmas lights available that can add that extra sparkle to your home. I still love the look of old-fashioned warm white Christmas lights, but we mixed it up a couple of years ago and added some white blinking lights with a hint of blue.
6. Light it up with holiday lanterns & candles
There are a lot of lanterns that will handle the cold days of winter. These give off a subtle light and warm up your entry. I used these similar lanterns on my back deck in the summer and pulled one out for the holiday season.
Our front porch took no time to decorate. It was a simple process, cost-effective, and a lot of fun to create.
