It’s true. I don’t really have an entryway. My front door leads into a small area with a closet, and there’s no room for an entryway table. You walk straight into my living room, thus making placing fall entryway table decor a bit challenging.
But placing an entry table just outside the entrance in my living area and an entryway bench a few steps away changed the feeling of the space. These two well-placed pieces of furniture create functional spaces and make it the perfect place to include some fall entryway table decor ideas.
From a functional standpoint, the console table provides a convenient surface to place keys or other items upon entering or leaving the house, and the bench offers a comfortable spot to sit. Combining these two pieces close to the entrance and as part of my living room furniture creates a functional yet stylish entryway in a small home ready for some fall entryway table decor.
Fall Entryway Decor Ideas
After months of searching, I found a great deal on an entry table that provides ample storage space. My goal was to relocate my junk drawer, which everyone has, to this area, which would free up a drawer in the kitchen.
It was also important for us to have a designated spot for keys and chargers. I found this table on sale at Wayfair, and although it’s not the highest quality, I am pleased with how it looks in my home until I find the perfect piece.
Ultimate Guide to Fall Entryway Table Decor
I have included the tips I used when creating a fall entryway table, and I hope they will help you create a beautiful entry for autumn.
1. Layer in Natural Elements
Fall is all about embracing the feelings and natural elements found in nature. Adding small items like mini pumpkins, gourds, and pine cones to your entryway table design adds texture and a seasonal touch.
Arrange them in a decorative bowl or scatter them across the table for a rustic feel. Dried leaves, acorns, and branches can also bring in more of the outdoors.
In this case, I chose artificial fall stems that looked like they had come in from the outdoors after the frost had naturally hit them.
Pro Tip: Vary the size and shape of your items to create visual interest.
2. Introduce Warm Fall Colors
When you think of fall, do you see rich and warm tones like burnt orange, deep reds, deep greens, mustard yellows, and soft browns? Use this color palette when choosing vases, picture frames, art, or decorative trays on your entryway table.
An easy way to introduce warm fall colors is to stack books with fall-colored covers, which will add warmth to the space.
I chose two books with beautiful warm covers for my entryway (Travel Home & Country House Style). The same warm tones are also in my artwork, as are the fall stems.
Pro Tip: Choose two or three dominant fall colors to keep your table cohesive and balanced.
3. Add Candles for Cozy Ambiance
Nothing says cozy like the soft flicker of fall-scented candles. Use candles in warm shades like amber or gold for fall, or be bold with black. Choose scents like pumpkin spice, cinnamon, or apple that smell amazing this time of year (or, in my case, I love these any time of year), and they will surely give your home an autumn feel.
Place candles in lanterns, glass hurricane vases, or candleholders on your table for added height and elegance. Flameless candles are also an excellent option for a worry-free, flickering glow.
If I had to choose just one candle scent I love, it would be anything with cinnamon and spice. Even in the summer, you will notice this yummy smelling candle when you walk into my home. It’s my absolute favorite, even over florals and citrus scents.
I used a green tea black candle from Bouclair Home in this design. It smells nice, though not quite like fall, and I like the touch of black it adds to the space.
Pro Tip: Use candles of different heights and sizes to add dimension to your decor.
4. Incorporate Plaid and Cozy Textiles
When you see plaid in the stores, what season are you in? Plaid and fall are one when it comes to home decor. Incorporate plaid or cozy textiles like chunky knit throws or simple runners into your entryway table decor.
For a pretty and stylish look, drape a plaid runner across the table or fold a blanket into a basket underneath or near the table. Adding cozy fabrics instantly makes the space feel warmer and more inviting.
I had a brown blanket in my stash of cozy throws, and adding it to a basket under my table pulled the whole look together. Of course, a plaid blanket would have made it feel even more like autumn, but it’s all about using what you have when you can.
Pro Tip: If you have a long console table, adding a plaid runner in warm, earthy tones is a great way to bring in cozy textiles.
5. Use Statement Pieces
Anchor your entryway table decor with a statement piece. This could be a large mirror, a seasonal wreath above the table, or a tall vase filled with branches or faux fall flowers. These more prominent elements provide a focal point and set the tone for the rest of the display.
We had a wall clock in our entry for the longest time. Mirrors are a great option for that one last check before leaving the house, but they can often be quite expensive. I was determined to find a budget-friendly mirror that fit my style. After some searching, I found the perfect arch mirror on Amazon, which was exactly what I had been looking for.
Pro Tip: Opt for tall decorative items that draw the eye upward to create a sense of balance on your table.
6. Incorporate a Personal Touch
It is fun to add personal touches to your fall entryway decor. Try incorporating family photos or custom signs with seasonal messages. Displaying framed pictures of family moments during past fall seasons or find seasonal prints on Etsy that add a unique and heartfelt touch to your space.
With limited space on my small console, I used this seasonal art print from Etsy, which brought in the same colors and added texture to the entry. Their vintage items are beautiful, and one of the easiest ways to decorate seasonally is to switch out your art. A few of my favorite sellers are:
Pro Tip: To add personality, swap out your regular family photos for ones taken during autumn to match the seasonal theme.
7. Play with Height and Layers
Mixing heights and layering different elements can create visual interest in design. Use taller items like vases, lamps, or lanterns as anchors, then layer in medium and smaller pieces like pumpkins, books, or candles. This balance keeps the table visually engaging without feeling cluttered.
I love table lamps in an entry but have not found one for this table yet. In the meantime, a simple white cachepot I had on hand gave enough height to the tabletop, and then I used books to layer and provide additional height to the candle.
Pro Tip: Group items in threes or odd numbers to create a more dynamic display. Tap HERE to learn how to use the full three in decorating.
8. Add a Basket for Functionality
Add a pretty basket to the entryway table, which will complement other seasonal decor. If you have room, you can even place it beside the table.
Baskets add texture and warmth to the space while serving a practical purpose—store blankets, decorative pillows, umbrellas, scarves, or shoes inside. A woven basket filled with small pumpkins, gourds, or faux autumn leaves can be really cute if you want to bring in even more fall decor.
I also have a little stash of baskets that I swap out from room to room, depending on my mood. This brown basket fit right in with the rest of my fall decor and was a great place to add texture.
Pro Tip: Opt for a basket in a neutral tone so it fits your decor all year round.
9. Fresh or Faux Flowers
A vase of flowers or stems always adds life to any space. For fall, go for blooms like sunflowers, mums, or dahlias in warm colors. If you prefer faux flowers, look for realistic fall leaves that will last all season. Adding wheat stalks or dried flowers can create a natural, earthy feel.
I added some darker fern stems to my white cachepot, which I found at Michaels’. It was surprising how realistic they looked once displayed. In this case, I used five stems. And they were on sale; how I love a good deal!
Pro Tip: Keep your floral arrangements simple and low-maintenance so they complement the space rather than overwhelm it.
