Dream Home Office Makeover on a Budget
We have done a few room makeovers in our home, but this one is close to my heart. This room is my go-to place for so many things, and I’ve been planning this transformation for some time now. So, without delay, here is my dream home office makeover! I think you will be impressed with the before and after photos!
Why a home office makeover?
For the past ten years, I have worked remotely as a Corporate Operations Manager for a company I have been with for almost 35 years. When I moved away from my hometown, I bought discounted furniture for work. I have to say that it has served me well.
As a blogger, I’ve been working from the same room for both jobs with my old and worn-out furniture. So, I thought it was time to give my home office a makeover. Want to know how I did it? Keep reading!
Home Office Makeover Revealed
This home office makeover all began with a new desk. After searching for several weeks, I found the perfect desk from Wayfair, and the transformation began!
Designing a Home Office
When starting a new room makeover, creating a mood board is a helpful way to determine how you want the room to look. Even if not all the elements are utilized, the mood board provides a general feel for the space.

Home Office Paint Colors
This home office makeover started by giving the room a new look with a fresh coat of paint. I chose the color Classic Gray by Benjamin Moore.
It is a lighter neutral shade and looked even better once we painted the doors and trim. The contrast of the crisp white against the soft gray gave the room a gentle and airy vibe, which is exactly what I was going for.

Lighting Makeover
Regarding lighting, I decided on a DIY project instead of buying a new light fixture for the room. It turned out so good; it was an inexpensive DIY I would do again!

The Desk
This makeover started because I was searching for a new desk for my home office. It took me a while to decide, but eventually, I found one on sale at Wayfair that finally went on sale, and I just had to have it!
Once I got the desk, things started to come together. I lined the drawers and installed organizers to keep my office supplies organized.

The Accent Chair
What’s nice is that I already had the perfect accent chair for the space – I bought it a few years ago for a different room, but it ended up being just what I needed.
I purchased a two-piece cabinet from Ikea. The bottom section has a sliding door and provides plenty of storage space, while the top part is great for showcasing books and home decor items. We’ve purchased a few other pieces of furniture from Ikea before, and they offer excellent quality for the price.

Desk Chair
I opted to buy this chair from Amazon instead of a regular office chair. I noticed that decorators were using a similar chair from World Market, which is unavailable in Canada. This version of the chair is quite cozy, and I am enjoying it so far. Unfortunately, it is no longer available.

Area Rug
Initially, my heart was set on the darker rug for my home office makeover, as shown in my mood board. However, since it was not in stock, I opted for a lighter version of a Loloi rug, which was just as impressive.
It added a feminine touch to the room and felt incredibly soft to walk on. Being a barefoot kind of girl, I particularly appreciate the cozy texture it offers. They offer multiple sizes, but it is popular, and stockouts can occur. If you like the look of this area rug, you can find it at Amazon, Wayfair, and Overstock.
Curtains
I purchased my curtains from Ikea, and I found they offered a high-end designer look at an affordable price. The light texture of the curtains resembles linen, and their soft, creamy white color keeps the room bright and open.
The black curtain rod is from Home Depot, and sliding eyelet rings are from Amazon. The simplicity of the rod’s design is very appealing, and I must say that the rings are the best I have ever used, especially when hanging drapes in a pinched pleat style.
Olive Tree, Prints, and Pillow
In a previous post, I shared my favorite finds from this makeover, which included the olive tree in my home office. I purchased this olive tree from Amazon, and it is simply stunning! It appears very realistic, and the price is unbeatable.
I put the olive tree in this classic grey planter, giving it a finished look. Additionally, I added the 18X24″ frames from Amazon. The prints and the pillow cover are from Etsy.

Home Office Decor
In the display cabinet and on my desk, I added decor pieces to give the room some interest and character. Styling is one of the fun parts of decorating.
This is where you can bring in pieces you love and add personal touches to make it your own. I collected home decor throughout the years, and it was great that I could reuse them in this room without too much expense during the makeover.
This is a list of all the decor items with links for your convenience:
Home Office Makeover Before and After
Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of my old desk from the front, but I do have some images that can give you an idea of what it looked like.
The before pictures were a little dark because of the lighting in the room at the time. You can see that there was a lot of clean-up, and we had to put together furniture before we painted and decorated it to get the final look.
