Primary Bedroom Makeover
When we moved into our new home, one of the items on our to-do list was to renovate the primary bedroom, which was previously a nursery. This room is the largest bedroom in the house and has an interior door leading to the hallway and another to the primary bathroom. If you are looking for inspiration to update your bedroom, this is our primary bedroom makeover.
Before starting the renovation, we always set clear objectives. Our goal was to create a spacious and comfortable bedroom, which we achieved by selecting a high-quality mattress, room-darkening blinds, sufficient storage, and a serene ambiance. I always make a mood board to guide the design process.
Primary Bedroom Makeover
Before furnishing and decorating, we expanded the wall space by removing the door between the primary bedroom and bathroom. The extra entrance served no practical purpose in our small home. Eliminating the door created more functional space in each room.
Primary Bedroom Ideas
As you can see in the before and after photos, we added a larger dresser for storage and a cozy chair for extra seating by removing this door.

The do-it-yourself board and batten accent wall proved to be a fantastic addition to the room, as it brought a unique and charming character to the space. The carefully executed project added a layer of visual interest while maintaining a cohesive design aesthetic. Overall, the wall was a beautiful and practical solution that elevated the entire room’s feel and ambiance.

Primary Bedroom Design
One of my favorite design details in this bedroom is the lighting. I wanted to add a little romance, and these lighting choices helped me do that. This chandelier and the pretty lamps bring the perfect ambiance to the space.
Let’s talk pillows
Because the rug I chose is neutral in color, I added printed pillow covers that I found on Etsy. I then ordered a small pillow for additional neutral contrast on the bed. I love the delicate details and texture they bring to the bed.
In my previous post about the primary bedroom design board, I mentioned that we decided to upgrade from a queen to a king-sized bed. Our new bed frame, which we purchased from Wayfair, is aesthetically pleasing and durable. We decided to buy the mattress from a local store.
We bought an Ikea dresser and replaced the knobs with antique brass to match our new night tables. Ikea offers affordable and quality furniture. Putting together Ikea products is always enjoyable and straightforward, and I can say that honestly!
Roger’s Favorites from our Makeover
Roger supports my decorating choices, and we share a similar style. He requested a wireless phone charger and an Echo Show 5 on his nightstand, which he uses as an alarm, and a white noise machine. He also added the Amazon Smart Plug to control our lamps with Alexa.
At first, I was hesitant about the Echo Show 5, but now I find it convenient. We have multiple alarm settings, we play music through Amazon Prime, and we added more Echo Home features to other rooms.
Our bedroom has become a sanctuary that brings me calm and relaxation. It’s a beautiful place to unwind and recharge after a long day, setting the perfect tone for a peaceful morning. Perhaps our bedroom renovation will inspire you to enhance your own space.
