April is an ideal month to concentrate on your home goals and make small changes to refresh the atmosphere. It’s the perfect time to plan for the upcoming gardening season, finalize summer vacations, and spend more time in the great outdoors enjoying fresh air.
Although I have seen snow in April where we live, it usually warms up enough in early April that I can walk outdoors comfortably, sit on the deck in the sunshine, and set up the BBQ for the upcoming season. I always take a staycation in March or April as it is an ideal time for spring break so I can catch up on everything.
April Showers
April is a beautiful time of year to explore nature and enjoy the outdoors—spring has officially arrived! However, despite all the natural beauty that April offers, we can not forget the old saying that “April showers bring May flowers.” This means there is a high chance of rain this month, which can come on suddenly and last for hours. Therefore, being well-prepared for the wet weather in April is important.
Whether you are planning outdoor adventures or running errands, having the right gear to keep yourself dry and comfortable is important. Firstly, you should pack away your winter jackets and boots and bring out more weather-appropriate clothes, such as waterproof jackets or raincoats. These will keep you dry and protected from the rain, even during heavy downpours.
In addition to your clothing, it is also important to bring along some other essentials. These may include an umbrella and rubber boots. With these items, you can confidently enjoy all the outdoor activities that April offers, knowing that you are well-prepared for whatever the weather may bring.
Easter Weekend
The Easter weekend’s annual celebration typically falls on a Sunday between March 22 and April 25. Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon following the vernal equinox. The exact dates vary depending on the year.
Numerous resources are available if the easter bunny visits in a year when it falls in April. You can explore different themes, such as egg hunts, crafts, and decorations, to make your celebration memorable and fun. Check out the related resources below for fun ideas and inspiration.

The month of April’s Home Goals
As the spring season is in full swing, most people are busy with their annual spring cleaning routine. April and early May are great times for this task, so it’s important not to miss some essential home goals.
This is the perfect opportunity to declutter your living spaces, deep clean your home, and organize your belongings. You can also take advantage of the warmer weather and prepare your garden for the upcoming summer months.
By accomplishing some of these tasks, you will improve your home’s overall appearance and functionality while creating a more comfortable and enjoyable living space for you and your family.
Spring Cleaning
You might already be in full swing of spring cleaning, but don’t forget about the following cleaning tasks that can sometimes be overlooked:
- Deep cleaning area rugs
- Air out your pillows and duvets
- Wash window screens and let the fresh air in
- Deep clean washer and dryer
- Deep clean oven and refrigerator
- Clean then store humidifiers
During the winter months, we began using a humidifier in our home. We found that it helped to alleviate the dryness and irritation of the cold weather, especially on our skin. However, as much as we appreciated its benefits, I always look forward to April when the weather begins to warm up, and we can finally put the humidifier away until the next winter season.
Along with the warm weather and the longer days, I also look forward to opening the windows and letting the fresh air in. There’s just something about the breeze flowing into my home. It’s a simple pleasure but one that I always appreciate.

Gardening in April
In the Maritimes, April is generally considered too early for gardening due to the unpredictable weather conditions. However, as a gardening enthusiast, I like to take advantage of any opportunity to prepare my garden for the upcoming season.
Even though it may be too early to start planting, I enjoy organizing a few things outdoors, such as clearing out debris, pruning back shrubs, and planning my garden layout for the year. I want to make the most of the warmer weather when it arrives, and starting early allows me to do just that.
These are some of the best things you can check off your list before the end of April:
- Turn on the outdoor water faucets and hook up your garden hoses and nozzles
- Clear out debris in your gutters and rake areas around the home
- Take outdoor furniture out of storage, clean, and repaint if needed
- Check outdoors for areas that need maintenance
