We typically start the month of July off with a Canada Day celebration. We hang the flag, have a summer BBQ, and grab lawn chairs for the local fireworks display. The long weekend tops off summer fun. It is always the best time, and we start thinking about everything we want to do in July.
July is a treasure of possibilities, offering the perfect blend of summer sun, culinary adventures, parties, and vibrant outdoor blooms. Whether you’re a homebody or an adventurer, there’s something for everyone. Check out your local calendars for free and paid July events waiting to be explored.
As a young girl, July was filled with blueberry picking. It was a family affair, with my mom, grandmother, and aunts all piling into my grandfather’s car for a blueberry-picking extravaganza. The memories of those days still bring a warm smile to my face.
Although I have fond memories of wild blueberry picking and sneaking as many I could fit in my mouth at once, I also remember being a little lazy as a young girl and sitting down on a stump for what was probably the third break that morning. Then I felt it; ants! Yes, I had ants in my pants. Their nest was in that stump…those are the things a girl never forgets!
This post is about things to do in July.
Celebrate Canada Day with a Dessert
Get ready to celebrate with some delicious desserts! As Canada Day approaches on the first day of July, consider sharing your favorite dessert with friends and family. It’s the perfect occasion to share sweet treats and create lasting memories.

Wellness in July
Remember to mark a specific day in your July calendar to cherish your well-being. Set some time aside to unwind, whether by curling up with your favorite book, finding a serene spot under the shade of a tree, or simply closing your eyes and enjoying the peaceful sound of leaves rustling in the gentle breeze. Always remember the value of prioritizing self-care to nourish your overall wellness.
Self-Care
One of my favorite things in summer is splurging on a spa pedicure. Take advantage of this beautiful season and treat yourself to a luxurious spa appointment or indulge in an at-home pedicure.
With so many gorgeous summer nail polish colors available, you can choose from a vibrant display (always so hard to pick at our local spa because there are so many colors!) or opt for a timeless color by picking a beautiful red polish. One of my favorites is CND Vinylux 362 Cherry Apple, a classic red with a sophisticated charm for sandal season!

Cut Flower Arrangements
If you have lovely hydrangea plants in your garden, you can take advantage of their blooming season by cutting their beautiful flowers and using them to create stunning floral arrangements.
This time of year is perfect for arranging all kinds of cut flowers in a vase to brighten your home.
I learned from a local flower shop a better way to create flower arrangements. This easy process uses scotch tape to create and design floral arrangements. Do you want to know how to add this special touch to your cut flower creations?
Here’s a step-by-step guide:
Materials Needed
- Flowers of your choice
- Vase or container
- Scissors
- Water
- Scotch Tape
Steps:
1. Prepare the Vase
- Clean the vase thoroughly and fill it with water.
2. Create a Tape Grid
- Use the Scotch tape to create a grid across the top of the vase.
- Start by placing tape strips horizontally across the top of the vase, leaving small gaps between each strip.
- Next, place strips of tape vertically, intersecting the horizontal strips to form a grid pattern. This grid will help support the flowers and keep them in place.
3. Trim the flowers
- Trim the stems of your flowers at an angle to the desired length. The angled cut allows better water absorption.
- Remove any leaves that will fall below the water line to prevent them from rotting.
4. Arrange the flowers
- Start with the largest or focal flowers. Insert them into the grid, spacing them evenly and ensuring they stand upright.
- Add the medium-sized flowers, filling in around the focal flowers.
- Use the smaller flowers and greenery to fill in any gaps and add texture and depth to the arrangement.
5. Adjust and Secure
- Adjust the flowers as needed to achieve your desired look.
- If any flowers seem loose or unstable, you can use small pieces of Scotch tape to secure them to the grid.
5. Final Touches
- Add any final touches, such as extra greenery or decoraive elements, to enhance the arrangment.
- Check the water level in the vase regularly and refill as needed
Tips
- Variety of Flowers: Use a mix of flower types, sizes, and colors to create a more dynamic and visually appealing arrangement.
- Height Variation: Arrange flowers at different heights to add depth and interest.
- Balance: Distribute flowers evenly around the vase to maintain balance and symmetry.
- Maintenance: Change the water every few days and trim the stems slightly to keep the flowers fresh longer.
Using Scotch tape in this way provides a simple and effective method to create a stable and beautiful flower arrangement.
