I always look forward to the month of May. It’s the time of year when my family and I open up our pool, plant our garden and clean up our garden beds. We love cooking on the BBQ and usually host a Mother’s Day brunch and the Victoria Day weekend BBQ.
Recently, my husband Roger added some bird feeders to our property, and the birds are absolutely loving it! We can watch them from our dining room window, so I’ve been spending some time working from the dining table to enjoy the beautiful scenery and the lovely sounds.
Roger is passionate about landscape and wildlife photography, which is why he put up the bird feeders. The image above is one of his stunning captures that I’m happy to share with you! They are so sweet!

Personal Self-Care
One way to ensure that you are consistently practicing self-care is by reviewing your routines every month. Look at what you’re doing and assess whether it’s working for you or not.
Keep the things that are benefiting you, and consider making changes to the things that are not. Remember, self-care is not a one-size-fits-all approach, so it’s important to find what works best for you.
Additionally, don’t be afraid to add something new to your routine to keep things interesting and exciting. This can help you avoid burnout and keep you motivated to continue your self-care journey.
This could include:
- Go for a daily walk
- Try outdoor yoga or meditation app
- Bird watching
- Create a summer reading list
- Purchase a new journal
Fun Events, Activities and Things to Do in May

Whether it’s participating in a group sport or game, exploring a new place or cuisine, or simply spending quality time at home, finding ways to engage with each other and have fun as a group is key.
Some things you may want to consider:
- Visit local farmer’s markets
- Play cards or a board game
- Visit a museum
- Go shopping at a flea market
- Experience the apple and cherry blossoms
- Take a walk on the beach
The Month of May’s Home Goals
Gardening in May
The month of May marks the beginning of the planting season, which is why we start by gathering all the necessary outdoor gardening supplies to ensure we have everything we need. This includes tools such as shovels, rakes, and pruning shears, as well as gloves and any other gear we may require.

Once we have all our supplies, we begin the pruning process, carefully trimming any shrubs or trees that have grown too big or become overgrown. This is an important step if you want to ensure that your plants remain healthy and maintain their shape.
Next, we turn our attention to the garden beds. We carefully remove any debris or weeds that may have accumulated, before adding a fresh layer of mulch to give them a new and vibrant look. This not only enhances the overall aesthetic of the garden but also helps retain moisture in the soil and prevent weed growth.
After that, we move on to the lawn, mowing it to a proper length and ensuring that it is neat and tidy.
As for our containers, we purchase soil and flowers from our local garden center, which includes the containers on our front porch and backyard. I usually take the time to plan what I am going to purchase ahead; and leave room for spontaneously when I see a new plant I love. It is important to take into account factors such as sunlight, soil type, and drainage.
Finally, we plant our garden seeds and seedlings, taking care to follow the specific instructions for each plant. This is a fun step in ensuring that our plants grow healthy and strong, producing delicious vegetables.

Mother’s Day Brunch Ideas
Mother’s Day is a special occasion where we have the opportunity to celebrate and honor the amazing mothers in our lives. One of my favorite ways to do this is by hosting a brunch. There is something so comforting and intimate about gathering around the table to enjoy a delicious and satisfying meal with loved ones.
Whether you’re planning a traditional brunch with classics like eggs, bacon, and pancakes, or you’re looking to try out some new and trendy recipes, there are plenty of options to choose from.
Some popular brunch staples include quiches, fruit salad, pastries, and mimosas. However, if you’re looking to get creative, you could try making avocado toast, overnight oats, or smoothie bowls. Whatever you choose to serve, the key is to make sure it’s flavorful, easy to prepare, and visually appealing.
In addition to the food, it’s important to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for your guests. You could decorate the table with fresh flowers or candles, or set up a mimosa bar for guests to customize their own drinks. Whatever you choose to do, make sure it reflects the spirit of the occasion and shows your appreciation for the wonderful mothers in your life.

Try New Recipes in May
As we move into the month of May, I’ve been craving some delicious smoothies. While I have a few tried-and-true recipes, I recently discovered some frozen smoothie packs that caught my eye at the grocery store.
They’re called evive smoothie cubes. They’re fast, healthy, and tasty, and while they may seem a bit pricey, you’re getting organic goodness. I usually keep an eye out for them to go on sale at my local grocery store. If you are looking to try something new, I highly recommend them.
I also have a couple of favorite smoothie tumblers, but if you’re in the market for a new tumbler that you’ll absolutely love, you can check out the link below. It’s perfect for enjoying your smoothie on the go or right at home.
