If I had to choose my favorite winter month, it would be March. The days are getting longer, we are feeling warm weather, and I get to celebrate my son’s and my birthdays! Birthday cakes are my favorite sweet treat.
The beginning of March is a time for family and fun. It’s March break in The Maritimes, and there is more outdoor activities and events during the month of March.
A family getaway is one of our favorite things to do when possible. Who wouldn’t like to take a trip somewhere warm where we can bury our toes in the sand? A place where we can all relax and recharge sounds amazing, doesn’t it? But even when we’re at home, here are some of the best things we like to focus on during March.

Outdoor Activities in March
March is a great time to focus on wellness and spend more time outdoors, enjoying the longer days and mild temperatures. If you love nature, here are some activities you can consider:
- Take a vacation to a warmer place to relax and unwind
- Go for a walk or hike in your local area or nearby parks and trails
- Visit a Maple Sugar Camp
A maple sugar camp is one of the best places to visit in March. This family-friendly event is such a fun and educational experience, and luckily, there are many farms in the area where I live, so we get to try a new one each year.
The process of producing maple sugar is fascinating – did you know that it takes approximately 40 gallons of sap to make just one gallon of maple syrup? It’s also incredible to watch the process of boiling the sap and seeing it transform into syrup right before your eyes.
If you’re interested in learning more about the process, I recommend checking out the resource below, which provides more information on the history and science behind maple sugar production.

March Home Goals
In addition to these leisurely pursuits, you can also use March as an opportunity to get organized and prepare for the coming months. Review your finances, plan summer vacations, and declutter your home. This helps you feel less stressed and more in control in the short and long term.
Finalize taxes
Taxes are one of those things that you will want to complete and get off your plate as early as possible.
Despite having two professional accountants in my family and my best friend working for an accounting firm, I actually prefer doing my taxes myself.
In Canada, we can use TurboTax, which is incredibly user-friendly and efficient. It allows me to easily gather all the necessary information and accurately file our taxes for my husband and me.
I have used the TurboTax Canada for the past ten years and found it incredibly reliable and trustworthy. It has made the tax filing process a lot less daunting and stressful for me, which is why I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to manage their taxes efficiently and effectively in Canada.

Spring Cleaning
With spring just around the corner, it’s the time of year to start preparing for some deep cleaning. There’s nothing quite like a fresh, clean home to welcome the new season.
It was a thing in our house growing up. We washed everything (well, at least my parents did!). From walls to ceiling to curtains and windows and everything in between. I still remember the smell of the soap they used back then.
To get started, you want to ensure you have all the necessary supplies. You’ll need cleaning solutions for various surfaces like floors, countertops, and bathrooms. Remember to stock up on scrub brushes, sponges, and cleaning cloths. It’s also a good idea to have a vacuum cleaner, broom, and dustpan ready for those hard-to-reach areas. And let’s remember the windows – make sure you have a good quality glass cleaner.
With these supplies on hand, you’ll be ready to tackle any cleaning challenge that comes your way. So, grab your spring cleaning supplies list, review it, and ensure you have everything you need before starting your deep cleaning.

As we move into the month of March, it’s an excellent time to start planning your garden for the upcoming season.
Whether you’re looking to grow annuals or vegetables, beginning with high-quality seeds is important if you want to harvest all the goodies in summer and fall. One way to do this is by using starter kits, which can make the process of starting your seeds more manageable and efficient.
Additionally, the “Week-by-Week Vegetable Gardener’s Handbook” is an excellent resource that can help guide you through the process of growing your own vegetables. This comprehensive guide provides information on topics such as soil preparation, seed starting, and maintaining your garden throughout the season.
I recently purchased this book, and I find it a helpful tool and the perfect place to write down my gardening notes.

Easter Planning
This holiday is not always in March, but no matter what, it is a good reason to prepare ahead.
When my son was younger, I always loved Easter. Although the Easter bunny always seemed a little scary, even to myself, the wonders of painting Easter eggs, making Easter egg bunny cakes, and having the best Easter egg hunts were such a tradition.
I recently thought about why we stop certain traditions as our kids age. Wouldn’t it be great to keep our creativity alive by making beautiful Easter eggs to decorate our table, organizing a fun Easter egg hunt for the entire family, and trying to make a delicious dessert that everyone will love?
Let’s make March the month for reviving old traditions, no matter how old we are. Try things like:
