Making the Most of February: Beat the Winter Blahs
Despite having fewer days than any other month, don’t you find February always seems to drag on? Perhaps it’s because we’re all eagerly anticipating the arrival of spring. But rather than just waiting for time to pass, let’s make the most of it. Here are some things you can do in February to help brighten up your days.
When you finally take down your Christmas decor in January and stand back, have you ever felt empty? The movement of the holidays is gone, and the weather is colder if you live in a climate that has chilly winters. And, although your home may feel tidier and cleaner, it still feels like something is missing.
February is the perfect month to change our mindset and continue to organize our calendar with wellness, home projects, food, and, let’s not forget, fun. Are you wondering what to do and where to start?
Wellness in February
If you’re looking to improve your mood during the winter months, it’s important to prioritize yourself daily and incorporate additional self-care practices.
Self Care Day
A self-care day in February sounds like a bit much to some of us, but what if you can make time in your calendar for a few things that would help you relax and make you feel good each week?
- Make yourself a healthy morning smoothie.
- Read a book or watch your favorite movie.
- Take a yoga or exercise class.
- Book an appointment at your favorite spa.
- Take a soothing and relaxing bath.
- Give your skin a little extra love.
- Have a soothing cup of herbal tea.
February Home Goals
If you are looking for a pick me up, perhaps getting back to and finishing some of those home projects is just what you need. Or maybe you want to organize something you have been putting off because it feels overwhelming. In February, take the challenge of finishing at least one home project.
1. Clean out your closet and make a donation
If you’re feeling cluttered and overwhelmed by the number of clothes you have, it might be time to clean out your closet. Not only will this make it easier to find what you’re looking for, but it will also make your space feel more organized and less chaotic.
By donating items that you no longer use or need, you’ll be able to give back to your community and help those in need. So why not take some time to sort through your wardrobe in February? You’ll feel better for it, and you’ll be helping others in the process.
Funny thing, my parents mentioned they were going to clean out their closet this time of year. The apple doesn’t fall from the tree!
2. Review your book collection and consider donating
Go through your collection of books and consider donating the ones that you no longer need or want. This will help declutter your space and provide an opportunity for someone else to enjoy a good read.
3. Order garden supplies
If you’re looking to get a head start on your gardening this year, starting your seedlings indoors is a great way to do it. By doing so, you can give your plants a chance to grow and develop before the weather outside is warm enough for them.
To get started, it’s a good idea to order your supplies ahead of time. February is the perfect time to do so, as it allows you to have everything you need ready to go in time for planting season.
4. Tidy the Linen Closet
Is it time to tidy up your linen closet and get rid of any old or worn-out items? Take some time to organize everything so that it’s easy to find what you need. Consider replacing any items that are no longer in good condition to keep your linens fresh and looking their best.
5. Create an inspiration board on Pinterest
If you’re planning to update a room, reorganize a space, or try a DIY project, consider creating a new board on Pinterest in February. Pin inspiration for upcoming projects and dreams. This will keep your ideas organized and easily accessible when it’s time to take them on!
Celebrate Valentine’s Day in February
Maybe you find the idea of Valentine’s Day silly, or perhaps you’re currently single and not interested in celebrating it. But what if we looked at it differently? What if instead of focusing on romantic love, this day could be about self-love, love for life, and the love we have for the people who matter to us? Let’s celebrate those kinds of love!
1. Valentine’s Day Brunch
Valentine’s Day is a great time to spend time with loved ones, and what could be better than a scrumptious brunch to start the day?
So, why not plan a wonderful Valentine’s Day brunch this February with your family and friends? You can prepare a spread of breakfast favorites, including pancakes, waffles, scrambled eggs, and bacon.
Don’t forget to add some fresh fruits, croissants, and a variety of flavorful beverages to the table. It will be a perfect opportunity to catch up with your loved ones and show them how much you care.
2. Reserve the restaurant ahead of time
Avoid disappointment and reserve your preferred restaurant ahead of time if you are going out to dinner. It is surprising how busy the day can be (I know friends who were married on Valentine’s Day), so prepare ahead, book your reservation in advance, and mark it in your calendar. This will avoid any last-minute hassle, and you can enjoy your dining out experience.
3. Bake Valentine’s Day desserts and share them
If you like baking or giving to others, take some time out of your schedule this February and set yourself up in the kitchen for a morning or afternoon of baking. There are some really cute and thoughtful ideas when it comes to Valentine’s Day treats.
No matter your age, everyone appreciates a little treat once in a while, so why not share your creativity this Valentine’s Day?
4. Write a little note for someone special
Does anyone else find greeting cards to be very expensive for what they offer nowadays? Instead of spending money on a card, why not write a heartfelt note for someone special and leave it somewhere unexpected? I am sure they will appreciate your kind words and the spontaneity of your gesture.
5. Take a walk and breathe some fresh air.
If all else fails, taking a walk outside can be a great way to clear your mind. Fresh air and a change of scenery can help you feel rejuvenated, refreshed, and re-energized.
Whether it’s a sunny day or a chilly evening, spending time in nature can help you connect with your surroundings and appreciate the beauty of the outdoors. Additionally, walking is a great form of exercise that can help reduce stress levels and improve overall well-being.
So, if you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed, take a break, put on your walking shoes, and head outside for a little fresh air and a change of pace. Your mind and body will thank you for it.
