Essential Baking Tools Every Home Needs
There are a variety of price options for baking supplies, making it simple to gather the necessary items. If you’re just beginning, renovating a new living space, or interested in baking later in life, let’s explore the most popular options, so you can gradually build your collection of baking tools.
Must-Have Baking Tools
To create your own family favorites, you’ll need these essential baking tools to get started. They are important for completing any basic recipe and will provide you with the necessary foundation for success. With these tools at your disposal, there’s no limit to what you can achieve in the kitchen!
1. Measuring cups and Spoons
Each recipe will call for exact measurements, so you will need to have measuring tools on hand. In my opinion, the metal measuring spoons have been a favorite for years. They are very popular and highly recommended. In addition to the spoons, measuring cups for liquid and dry ingredients is a must-have. I have used the dry ingredient cups for liquid without any issues. If you are picking just one, choose the individual measuring cups first.
2. Mixing Bowls
Multiple mixing bowls are needed for most recipes, so three different sizes make sense. I recently upgraded to the OXO bowls and moved away from Pyrex, which was an essential baking tool for many years. I wanted the grip at the bottom of the bowl to stop the slipping when mixing. It worked!
3. Mixing Spoons
This is a personal preference, in my opinion. Some people like the old-fashioned wooden spoons, and some use a silicone or metal version. Whichever works as long as you have a mixing spoon on hand.
4. Spatula/Scraper
A spatula that scrapes the bowl will help you quickly get the mix into the pans. It is also a great baking tool to use when mixing ingredients to ensure anything sticking to the sides of the bowl gets into the recipe.
5. Whisk
This tool is great for mixing wet ingredients, and I use it to mix the dry into the wet, depending on the recipe.
6. Metal Spatula
Metal spatulas are great for both cutting and serving. It helps you remove cookies from a cookie sheet and flips anything that needs to be turned for the second half of the cooking time.
7. Rolling Pin
Rolling pins are used in many recipes, and there are some beautiful choices nowadays. I love the classic wood rolling pin, but the marble is so pretty!
8. Baking Pans
There are many types of baking pans, depending on the recipe. The basics include a pair of 9″ round pans, a pie plate, a loaf pan, a baking sheet, and a muffin pan.
9. Wire Racks
The cooling process in baking is essential, and you want to ensure you have wire racks available so the homemade treats can cool from the bottom and the top.
10. Oven mitts
It would be best to have oven mitts for any oven-ready recipe. The silicone mitts are great, but some cute and decorative oven mitts would add a little style to your kitchen.
Additional Baking Tools
Pastry Brush, Pastry Blender, pastry mat, and Pastry Lattice roller
If you are into making pastry of any kind, you will want the tools to make this task a little easier. The lattice roller can explore more possibilities with your creative endeavors.
Icing spatula, cake stand, cake decorating kit
Want to make your cakes just a little more beautiful? Use an icing spatula to perfect the look of your frosting, a decorating kit to give your cakes some personality, and a pretty cake stand to show it off.
Cookie cutters, silicone muffin cups, and cupcake liners
These also make it a little easier when working with rolled cookies, muffins, or any type of cup recipe.
Square pans, a Bundt pan, and a spring form pan
These specialty pans will take your baking to the next level. Try Bundt cakes, cheesecakes, square cakes, and brownies. These will expand your baking adventure, giving you a variety of recipes to try.
Baking Equipment List
Hand Mixer, stand mixer, and blender
In my opinion, the hand mixer is an investment you don’t want to skip. It makes baking so much easier, and I can honestly say that I have had my mixer for 33 years. Yes, it still works like a charm!
A stand mixer is not a necessity, but count me in! I love the look of a stand mixer on a kitchen cupboard if you have the room.
Our blender gets so much more use than just baking. I am a smoothie girl and love cocktails, so I could not live without my blender. There are multiple options, and I recommend ensuring it can crush ice if you love drinks too! We have had the Ninja blender below for almost four years now. It is a fantastic blender.
Scales, baking storage, and organization
Scales are unnecessary but make things easier when the recipe calls for a weight. I keep one in the cupboard for those times I want to ensure the measurement is exact.
Keeping all your baking essentials in one area of your kitchen or pantry will let you know where everything is when the time comes for you to create your next recipe. Easy access and organization can keep you motivated to try new things.
When curating any essentials in your home, start with the essential baking tools that every home needs and then slowly bring in any additional products you love as you learn and grow. Baking is a creative outlet and a fun way to relax and enjoy life.
