10 Holiday Hosting Tips: How to Prepare for Your Guests
Impress your holiday guests with these easy-to-follow hosting tips that will help you be fully prepared for their arrival. With some advance planning, you can confidently relax and enjoy their company, knowing that everything is taken care of.
Holiday Hosting Tips
As the holiday season approaches, you might be thinking about inviting guests to your home. Hosting guests can be a fun and exciting experience, but it can also be stressful if you’re not well-prepared.
To ensure that your guests have an enjoyable stay, there are several things you can do in advance. These holiday hosting tips will guide you on how to prepare your home, plan meals, and create a welcoming atmosphere for your guests.
1. Make a List
It may sound simple, but at times, we tend to have a lot going on, and we believe we can remember everything. It’s always better to write it down. Trust me, writing all your holiday hosting tips and tasks down on paper will help you plan ahead.
And who doesn’t like checking off items from their to-do list? I’m one of those people who even adds a task after completing it just to check it off! I know I’m not the only one!
2. Meal Prep and Planning
Planning your meals in advance can be a game-changer, not just during the holiday season. It not only leads to a healthier diet but also saves you valuable time and money.
Get started with a grocery list and prep your meals in advance. You can purchase any nonperishable items but wait until the day before you serve to buy salad greens, fresh bread, or seafood.
Another great holiday hosting tip in this category is to prep. You can bake goods ahead, make freezer meals, chop vegetables, and ensure you have all the necessary ingredients before hosting a meal or gathering.
Pinterest is an excellent source of inspiration for recipe ideas. Taking the time to plan your meals in advance will help you stay stress-free and organized.
3. Stock up on Essentials
Essentials vary from person to person. Essentials can include things like breakfast ideas that can be prepared quickly, coffee, tea, snacks, drinks, and even toilet paper. If you plan on serving alcoholic beverages, ensure that you have all the necessary ingredients to make your favorite holiday cocktails. Whatever your essential items are for the holidays, it is important to stock up on them beforehand.
4. Decorate the Guest Room
If you have a guest room or a designated space in your home for your guests, it’s important to decorate it with some holiday decor. This holiday hosting tip will not only make your guests feel welcome but also provide them with a cozy atmosphere where they can relax and feel at home.
To help you with this, I have written a post on “How to Prepare Your Guest Room for the Holidays” that will provide you with all the necessary tips and ideas.
5. Create a Holiday Tablescape
When it’s time to host a holiday meal, bring out the cloth napkins and beautiful tableware. Take a moment to appreciate the hard work you put into preparing the delicious meal you’re serving.
Whether it’s brunch, lunch, dinner, or a hors d’oeuvres spread, create a table setting that’s beautiful and enjoyable for both you and your guests. If you’re looking for inspiration, check out my post, “6 Festive Holiday Table Setting Ideas on a Budget.”
6. Use Holiday Scents
There are numerous ways to fill your home with the holiday spirit, like pretty candles, essential oils, or simmer pots. Scents like cinnamon, pine, cranberries, and oranges can be used to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for anyone visiting your home.
One of my personal favorite holiday hosting tips is to make my Fragrant Holiday Simmer Pot Recipe, which you should definitely try!
7. Gift Wrap Early
If you have gifts that need to be wrapped before your guests arrive, it’s best not to wait until the last minute. I have to admit, I’ve done it more than once! But I have learned that it’s much less stressful if you wrap your gifts early.
Another tip is to stock up on holiday wrapping paper, ribbons, tags, tape, boxes, and bags to ensure you don’t have to run out for more once you start. I love wrapping gifts, and it’s so satisfying once you’re done!
8. Celebrate with Holiday Music
When it comes to getting in the holiday spirit, there’s nothing like a good playlist to set the mood. I usually start my decorating in early November, and from that point on, holiday music is on repeat.
It’s hard not to sing along to the familiar tunes, and it just brings a sense of joy to the home. Of course, that joy doesn’t come from my singing skills!
9. Declutter the Coat Closet
Another holiday hosting tip is to make sure your guests have a clear space to store their outdoor clothes when they come to visit. Declutter your coat closet and add extra hangers so that there is no confusion about where they can put their coats. Your guests will appreciate the time you took to do this!
10. Enjoy the Company
It’s important to remember that your guests want to see you enjoying the holiday season as much as they are. To make this possible, it’s so important to use these holiday tips to prepare ahead of time so that you can fully experience the holiday spirit with them.
Don’t wait until the last minute to get everything done after your guests have arrived. You want to take time to sit down with your morning coffee, have a conversation over lunch, go for a drive to see the holiday lights and sit down with your family during meals.
The holidays are about enjoying each other’s company, so make sure to take the time to do so!
As the holiday season approaches, it’s time to start planning for hosting your loved ones. With these helpful tips, you can take the stress out of holiday hosting and focus on enjoying the company of your guests.
