This post shares how to prepare a Christmas Guest Room.
How to Prepare Your Guest Room for the Holidays
I enjoy entertaining guests, especially when they can stay a night or two. Whether you have a separate bedroom or a multipurpose room where guests can stay, preparing for guests during the holidays is something you want to do sooner rather than later.
What I enjoy the most is that you can add even more details during the holidays to create a warm and inviting space. Enjoy the process by using these simple tips to elevate your guest room over the holidays.
1. Declutter and Clean
Some guest bedrooms become a catch-all room, so ensure you declutter and put away or remove any unnecessary belongings from the space. The first step to most home projects is to declutter and clean the area. Wipe down all flat surfaces, wall plates, and door knobs, and vacuum and wash the floors. Add a diffuser with lemon or orange essential oil to make the space feel fresh, light, and airy.
2. Add Fresh Linens
Wash and dry the sheets just before your guests arrive. Fresh linens on the bed give a calming, relaxing feel when getting into bed. A trick is to use lavender on your dryer balls, which is such a beautiful bedtime scent. Include fresh towels on the bed, a side table, or a nearby bathroom so they know they are available. Include one bath towel, a hand towel, and a facecloth for each guest. You can also include makeup remover facecloths. All bathroom linens can be replaced each day.
3. Include Cozy Holiday Bedding
The bedding does not have to include holiday designs, but it is a great idea to include layers. Include a quilt, a duvet or comforter, and throw blankets for extra warmth, if needed. Winter or holiday-inspired pillows can add a personal, festive touch that your guests will appreciate. You can keep the colors neutral or add a pop of holiday colors that coincide with your home’s decor.
4. Add Touches of Holiday Decor
Adding a Christmas tree, a wreath, a garland, or a floral arrangement will add some holiday cheer to your guest bedroom. Adding one or all of these options is a personal choice, but you can be sure these little details will change your guest room from its everyday look to a holiday design for everyone to enjoy, including you and your family. I love adding holiday decorations to our bedrooms; just that subtle touch allows you to wake up surrounded by the Christmas spirit every day.
5. Stock up on the Essentials
Nothing is worse than traveling for the holidays and forgetting one of your essentials. Reassure your guests by offering a wide variety of everyday essentials such as:
- toothbrushes
- toothpaste
- floss
- shampoo and conditioner
- a bar of soap
- lotion
- shaving cream for her
- shaving cream for him
- razors
- bandaids
- air freshener
6. Display the Wifi Password
This is one thing most guests ask for when they are visiting for any length of time, so why not provide the wifi within the guest bedroom so they can set themselves up on arrival? Keep a small notebook with the Wi-Fi password on the nightstand, or display it in a cute picture frame. Either way, your guests will appreciate the easy access to stay connected.
7. Create a Welcome Gift Basket
How beautiful would adding your special touch to a holiday welcome gift basket be? This can be personal and specific to the guests that are visiting, but some fun ideas to include in your guest baskets are:
- bottled water
- individually packaged snacks
- holiday treat or ornament
- phone charger
- something to read
- crossword or word find
- notebook and pen
