Why a Home Office Makeover?
Working from home for so many years taught me the value of creating a space that supports both comfort and productivity.
A clutter-free and well-organized home office can make such a difference in staying focused and reducing stress. I also wanted my office to reflect my personal style—something that makes me feel happy and inspired every time I walk in.
If you’re considering a home office makeover, think about the aspects of your current space that aren’t working for you and prioritize changes that will make a tangible impact.
For me, it was definitely time for a change! Want to know how I did it? Keep reading!
Home Office Makeover Revealed
This home office makeover all began with a new desk. After searching for several weeks, I found the perfect desk from Wayfair, and the transformation began!
Creating a Vision
When starting a new room makeover, the first thing I do is create a mood board. This helped me with my home office inspiration. A mood board is more than just a collection of images; it’s a tool that enables you to align your ideas and visualize how the space will come together.
I included photos of neutral palettes, cozy textures, and functional layouts for my home office. Even if you don’t have fancy software, creating a simple collage with magazine clippings or free online tools like Canva or Pinterest can help you decide on color schemes, furniture styles, and decor elements that resonate with your vision.
This step made the entire makeover process feel more intentional and exciting! Even if not all the elements are utilized, the mood board provides a general feel for the space and keeps you focused.
The Power of Paint
Choosing the right paint color can be daunting with so many options out there, but it’s one of the most transformative elements of any makeover.
I opted for Classic Gray by Benjamin Moore for the wall color because it’s versatile and pairs beautifully with almost any decor style.
If you’re unsure about committing to a color, try using peel-and-stick samples to see how the shade looks in different lighting throughout the day. A little experimentation goes a long way in achieving the perfect look.
In this home office, the makeover started by giving the entire room a fresh new look with a coat of paint. In addition to the walls, painting the doors and trim crisp white added contrast, enhancing the airy vibe I was aiming for. It’s incredible how much a fresh coat of paint can do!

DIY Projects: A Lighting Transformation
For this project, I took an old light fixture that looked outdated and gave it a fresh coat of spray paint. It instantly modernized the space and saved me money compared to purchasing a brand-new fixture.
Adding a warm, energy-efficient bulb completed the look. Don’t be afraid to get creative with lighting—it’s a fantastic way to put your personal touch on a room without breaking the budget.

The Desk
The desk was the starting point of this makeover. I searched high and low before finding one at Wayfair that ticked all the boxes. Once it arrived, I lined the drawers and added organizers to keep my office supplies neat and accessible.

The Perfect Accent Chair
I already owned the perfect accent chair I purchased years ago for another room. It is on the opposite side of the room from my desk, creating a cozy little nook. It fits seamlessly into the space and provides the perfect place for reading or brainstorming.
Smart Storage Solutions
I invested in a two-piece cabinet from Ikea for the back wall. The bottom section offers ample storage space with its sliding door, while the top is perfect for showcasing books and decor.
The cabinet hardware was perfect, and Ikea’s quality and affordability make it a go-to for home projects.

Comfortable Office Chair
My desk chair is a cozy find from Amazon. While it’s no longer available, it’s a great example of how you can find stylish and functional options online.
I noticed that decorators were using a chair similar to that of World Market, which is unavailable in Canada. I was so happy to find this option.

Adding Warmth with an Area Rug
Initially, I wanted a darker rug, but stock issues led me to a lighter Loloi rug—and I couldn’t be happier! Its soft texture and feminine design elevate the space, making it functional with a beautiful setup.
They offer multiple sizes. If you like the look of this area rug, you can find it at Amazon and Wayfair.
Elegant Curtains
The window faces the front of the house with the late afternoon sun. I needed curtains for privacy, but they also soften the feel of the room.
The curtains from Ikea offer a high-end look without the hefty price tag. Their linen-like texture and creamy white hue keep the room bright and inviting. The black curtain rod from Home Depot and Amazon’s sliding rings complete the polished look.
Office Decor Pieces That Inspire
Small touches make a big difference. I added an olive tree from Amazon, framed art prints, personal photos, and throw pillows from Etsy to personalize the space. A grey planter adds a finished look to the tree, tying the elements together.
When selecting decor, I wanted pieces that were not only beautiful but also meaningful. The framed prints I chose include beautiful art to keep me productive and creative throughout the day. I also included a photo of my children.
The 18X24″ frames are from Amazon. The prints are from Etsy.
If you’re decorating your space, consider adding personal touches like family photos, travel souvenirs, or DIY artwork. These items tell a story and make the room feel uniquely yours while staying within your budget.
Styling the Space
Decorating is where the magic happens! This is my favorite part.
I styled the display cabinet and desk with meaningful items I’ve collected over the years. These pieces, from books to vases, bring personality and warmth to the room without breaking the bank.
Here’s a list of home decor items I used:
Before and After: The Big Reveal
Don’t let the idea of a “before” photo intimidate you—it’s an essential part of documenting your progress!
Seeing how far your space has come can be incredibly satisfying and motivate you to tackle other areas in your home. If you’re starting your own project, take a moment to snap a few photos, even if the space isn’t picture-perfect yet. You’ll be grateful for the reminder of all the hard work you put in.
One of my favorite parts of any makeover is seeing how the space evolves through the process. Looking back at the before photos, I’m amazed at how much brighter and more inviting the room feels now.
The small details, like the new desk accessories and carefully chosen decor, truly bring the vision to life. It’s proof that even a small budget can lead to a dramatic transformation when you plan carefully and focus on meaningful changes.
The before pictures are a little dark, showcasing the challenges I faced. From cleaning up to assembling new furniture and painting, each step brought me closer to my vision.
