Desk Drawer Organization: Aesthetic Tips for Home Office
Whether you work from home or at an office, these tips will teach you how to organize your desk drawers like a professional. I am currently in the process of refreshing my home office, and I am excited to share these aesthetically pleasing organization tips and tricks with you.
How to Organize Desk Drawers
When choosing a desk for my home office, I knew I needed as much storage as possible. I went with a smaller executive-style desk with two small drawers, two deep drawers, and one larger drawer, typically for a keyboard. Then it was time to organize my desk drawers.
1. How to Declutter Current Office Supplies
I can be guilty of collecting office supplies. Something about a new notebook, pen, and highlighter makes me feel like I am starting fresh. It gives me that feeling of a new beginning, like a new day, week, month, or year.
Has it become a little obsession? Maybe. I do try to keep it under control somewhat, and decluttering is essential in helping me do that.
To get started, donate anything that you will not use, and throw away pens, highlighters, and markers that don’t work. Even go so far as to keep things like paperclips to one metal or color to give your organization a clean, esthetic look.
Go through files and paperwork to ensure everything is relevant and current. Once you finish decluttering, you want to ensure you need or love everything you have left over.
2. How to Categorize Office Supplies
It is time to divide your remaining office supplies into categories. This will help you with the next step of prioritizing your necessities. These are my categories, and you may also have different or additional ones.

- Planner Supplies

Don’t waste any extra space! If you don’t have to use a keyboard drawer, it is the perfect spot for stationary.
3. How to Prioritize and Organize Necessities
Consider what you use your desk for and what is important to you. This will help you prioritize your necessities.
For example, I wanted to ensure I could access products I used daily, like stationery items, tech products, work files, and personal home files. I also needed a place for products that supported my morning and evening routines. If they are handy, I do them!
Once you separate your supplies into categories, choose which products you need easy access to and which you can store away in other areas. This will help you decide how to organize your desk drawers.
If you have overstock in a category, like pens or highlighters, limit the amount you keep in your desk drawers and put the extra in storage containers. You don’t want your drawers to overflow; you want to see exactly what you have.
4. How to Choose the Best Desk Drawer Organizers
Take the measurements of your drawers and search for an organizer that fits your space. I found this drawer organizer and bought three to help group my products. The organizer is clear and offers separators in different shapes and sizes. It was simple to use and made of heavy-duty material.
As you can see, using a drawer organizer makes it easy to find things. There is no more frustration from digging through boxes or piles of mismatched products, trying to find that one thing.
5. Why Add a Drawer Liner
You can easily add liners using peel-and-stick vinyl shelf and drawer liners. When you use a clear organizer, you can see the liner on the bottom of your drawer, giving it a unique and pretty look. This simple adder gives your desk personality, as drawer liners come in many patterns and colors.
