How to Organize Desk Drawers
I can be guilty of collecting office supplies. Something about a new notebook, pen, and highlighter makes me feel like I am starting fresh. It gives me that feeling of a new beginning, like a new day, month, or year.
1. Declutter Current Office Supplies
Office supplies can become a little obsession, even for me. I keep it under control somewhat, and decluttering is a helpful way to do that. I understand the struggle of parting with anything when decluttering, but it’s necessary to maintain a functional workspace.
Start by donating anything you will not use, and throw away pens, highlighters, and markers that don’t work. Keep paperclips to one metal or color to give your organization a clean, aesthetic look.
Use my decluttering paperwork system to go through files and paperwork to ensure everything is relevant and current. Once you finish decluttering, you want to ensure you need or love everything left over.
2. Categorize Office Supplies
It is time to put your remaining office supplies into categories. This will help you with the next step of prioritizing your necessities. These are my categories; you may also have different or additional ones:

Pens, pencils, markers, highlighters, white-out correction tape

Tip: Don’t waste extra space if you don’t have to use the keyboard drawer; it is the perfect spot for stationary.
3. Prioritize and Organize Necessities
What if you could have everything at your fingertips when working?
Ensure you can access the products you use daily, such as stationery items, tech products, work files, and personal home files. You may require a spot for products that support your routines.
Once you separate your supplies into categories, choose which products you need easy access to and which you can store away in other areas. This will help you decide how to organize your desk drawers.
If you have excess stock in a category, like pens or highlighters, limit the amount you keep in your desk drawers and put the extras in storage containers. You don’t want your drawers to overflow; you want to see exactly what you have.
