Discover Bouctouche, NB: An Acadian Coastal Adventure
My husband and I drove to a neighboring town during Labor Day weekend to visit one of the most stunning beaches. The town we visited was Bouctouche, NB, which holds a special place in our hearts since it is where we went on our first date.
Visting the Town of Bouctouche NB
The town is easily accessible off one of the main highways in New Brunswick, NB-11. It is a 50-minute drive North of Moncton, NB, so it made for a perfect day trip. If you enjoy discovering new places, its proximity to water and stunning natural beauty will leave you in awe. During our visit, we embarked on an Acadian coastal drive and experienced the unique culture that this small town has to offer.
Le Pays de la Sagaouine
You can see Le Pays de la Sagouine from the highway as you drive by. When you visit Le Pays de la Sagouine, you’ll have the pleasure of interacting with actors who bring Antonine Maillet’s characters to life. This charming island offers scenic views of the river, which you can enjoy from a trail just off the highway. It’s the perfect spot to relax and immerse yourself in the experience.
Did you know? Bouctouche, located at the mouth of the Bouctouche River on the Atlantic Ocean, is one of Canada’s most beautiful small towns.
Downtown Favorites
As you make your way down Boulevard Irving, there are several quaint shops and eateries to explore. The town boasts charming spots by the water where you can relax and savor a cup of coffee or a delicious lunch.
During your walk on the trails overlooking the harbor, you can enjoy the view of the variety of boats in the area. We enjoyed seeing a few boats cruising the river on a beautiful day.
La Dune de Bouctouche
Our next stop was the Irving Eco-Centre La Dune de Bouctouche. This protected dune is one of the last on the Northeast Coast of North America. This fine sand expands 12 km and creates a beautiful beach experience.
One of our top picks for beaches, the walking trails along the dune transport you to a whole new world. The breathtaking views and seemingly endless water create an unforgettable experience.
Eco-Centre
Visitors are welcome to explore the Eco-centre and learn about the local ecosystem. The vast amount of information available can be enhanced through guided tours, readily available on-site.
Shopping this visit
We stopped at the Michaud Farm’ on the way back into town. This market is the perfect place to pick up fresh vegetables and fruits.
One of the best experiences is selecting fresh produce from local farms. As autumn approaches, pumpkins become available for harvest starting in early September.
On the roadside, you’ll come across an antique and carving shop with a distinctive appearance. It’s an innovative approach to creating a unique business that celebrates the local culture and coastal surroundings.
Irving Arboretum
Our final destination for this trip was the Irving Arboretum. This is a place where visitors can stroll, bike, or drive through stunning gardens. The breathtaking architecture of the buildings will impress you as you make your way up the driveway.
When exploring the gardens, the paths are designed to be one-way. This ensures every visitor has the opportunity to experience the tranquil surroundings. The arboretum offers a unique experience depending on the season, making it a destination worth visiting if you happen to be in the area!
One of our favorite activities is visiting the charming town of Bouctouche NB, which holds a special place in our hearts. It’s conveniently close to home, making it an accessible destination to create cherished memories. If you’re traveling to the Maritimes, we highly recommend stopping by and spending a day in one of Canada’s most beautiful small towns!
